Original Design

All he ever wanted to do was fit in
Impressionable &
Insecure
Excited for life to begin
Aimlessly
Consuming through the senses
Soulless methods of survival
Passed down like a family heirloom
From generation to generation
Ways of the world left him in despair
Weeping
Scoring and soaring on the outside
& Inside?
Dying
Crying
Screaming hellaciously,
Like that caged bird Maya Angelou describes
All he ever wanted to do was fit in
Risking it all — rolling the dice
To be in the “in”
Suddenly
Values changed overnight
Pleasure became a crutch — a delight
In a world that was dim
Tunnel vision, it’s dark
No light — I’m losing sight
All he ever wanted to do was fit in
And then,
A storm came, rain poured
No longer could he ignore
Who he had became
&
Who he was before
